Migration - Transformation - Consolidation

frequently asked questions

Yes. All versions of Movithere will migrate between any version of Windows server to any version of Windows server 32 or 64 bit.
Yes. If migrating local user accounts and maintaining the same passwords is a requirement, then a Lsa registry change is required along with allowing copypwd.dll through virus checking software or end point protection. See the Quick Start guide included with each version of Movithere for complete detailed prerequisites.
No. 2 servers with the same name can not exist in the same network. However you can use Movithere to migrate to a different server with a different name. Once the migration is complete, and the original server is taken off line, you can add the original server name as an optional name to the new server and endusers will maintain mapped connections to their resources with either server name.
Movithere copies user accounts, groups, files, folders, shares, NTSF and share permissions to the destination server. The original server is never changed. There is no delete feature in Movithere and the original server can remain online and functional throughout the entire migration process.
The Movithere resync process copies any changes to the destination server since the last migration process or resync. If any objects were not copied they are recreated on the destination server. If any files or object proerties have changed they are changed on the destination server. By using the last modifed date, new files from the original server are copied to the destination server, If a file has been deleted on the original server and has previously been copied to the destination server no action will take place. Once again there is no delete feature in Movithere, that would be too risky.
No. Movithere is a server migration application and is used wordwide not only for migrating from Windows 2003 to new Windows server platforms, but Movithere is utilized when Windows servers start failing, when Windows server leases come to an end, when companies need to reduce cost by consolidating servers and to prepare for data migration to the cloud from physical servers. Whenever mission crital data needs to be migrated to a different server without end user disruption or downtime, Movithere is migrating server resources in the background while users continue working without interruptions.
No. Movithere relies on the newly released OneCollector engine. It uses Windows native Task Scheduler to perform its functionality either collecting information for data migration, server reporting or server security backups. A single folder is created on all servers where OneCollector.exe and its supporting .dll files are copied. from there the collected information is stored for each type of project. Using this method allows you to schedule migrations, resyncs, report collections and server security backups at times that are convenient at off-hours.
